KEEPNOTE ON BACKTRACK 5
INTRODUCTION
- While
doing penetration Testing , its very important to do a documentation
and for documentation we need a application in linux .
- If you are a backtrack 5 fan , then keepnote application in Backtrack linux is for you . Try it and practice it .
- In this tutorial you will learn how to -
- Create a Notebook .
- Create a New Page .
- Create a New Child Page .
- How to use a features of Keepnote like Attach file , Insert date , Insert Horizontal rule , Insert screenshot etc .
- Also you see how to export Notebook in HTML form .
- And how to take a backup of your Notebook .
There are many other features like formatting ( font,size etc ) which help you to make your testing document more attractive .
HOW TO OPEN KEEPNOTE LINUX
Different ways to open Keepnote are -
- On Backtrack 5 Gnome goto > Applications > Backtrack > Reporting Tools > Evidence Management > Keepnote .
- Applications > Office > keepnote .
- Applications > Miscellaneous > keepnote .

KEEPNOTE OPENED
- Keepnote is opened now , see the below image for more details -
CREATE NOTEBOOK
- Whatever the Testing you do , you should create a document of it .
- To create a notebook click on File > New Notebook .

GIVE NAME TO THE NOTEBOOK
- Below you can see that , the name given to this file is hackingDNA .
- See the below image for more details -
After creating a Notebook , now create a New Page and give a name to that page .
Create new page
To create a New Page follow the steps –
- Right click on Notebook name ( hackingDNA ) > click on New Page .
- Give name to New Page ( Information Gathering ) .

Create New Child page
To create child Page , follow the following steps –
- Right click on New Page ( Information Gathering ) > and click on the New Child Page .
- Give name to the New Child Page ( nmap ) .

FEATURED OF KEEPNOTE
In between of your documentation , you can insert the following things like –
- Attach File
- Insert Date
- Insert Horizontal Rule
- Insert Image
- Insert Screenshot

EXPORT FILE IN HTML
You can also export your documentation in the HTML ( Hypertext Transfer Markup Language ) format .
To export your Notebook follow the step –
- Left click on File > and then on Export Notebook .
- Enter the name of your file ( hackingDNA-2014-01-11).
- At the end press Export .

BACKUP
Another good feature it has a Backup of your documentation .
To take a backup of your document follow the steps –
- Click on File > Backup Notebook .
- Enter the name and click on backup .

- Under the Root Directory you will find you backup file ( hackingDNA-2014-01-11.tar.gz ).
